Robert Arthur Shamp, 65, retired educator and former principal at Findlay High School, died early Thursday, April 5, 2007, at his residence. He was born August 17, 1941, in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Arthur and Ruth (Damschroder) Shamp. On June 27, 1964, he married Marilyn Miller and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Craig Shamp (wife, Heather) Springboro, Ohio; a daughter, Lynn Shamp Otley (husband, Jim) Findlay, Ohio and four grandchildren, Stefanie Otley, Nick Otley, Amanda Shamp and Ashley Shamp. Mr. Shamp was a 1963 graduate of Bowling Green State University with a BS in Education, and received a Master of Arts Degree in 1966 from B.G.S.U. He also did post graduate work at Ohio University. He began his teaching career at Bowling Green High School as a Social Studies Teacher from 1963-1969. From 1967-1969 he was a part time instructor in the Department of History at B.G S.U. From 1969-1971 he was chairman of the Social Studies Department and Quest Director at Athens High School. From 1971-1979 he was Principal of Athens High School. From 1979-1993 he was principal of Findlay High School. From 1994-2005 he served as Adjunct Professor at B.G.S.U. and supervised student teachers. Mr. Shamp was a member of the Ohio North Central State Committee. He served as area coordinator for North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, President of the Southeastern Ohio Assoc. of Secondary School Principals, and President of Southeastern Ohio Athletic League and was on the Board of Directors of Hancock Recreation Center. He was an avid NASCAR fan. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 9, 2007, at the Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. John Wurster officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home. Private interment will be at the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 2300 South Main Street, Findlay, Ohio, 45840 or Robert A. Shamp Scholarship Fund.
