Bob Ritch was born and raised on a farm on Buena Vista Rd. in Columbus, Georgia. He was the third of seven children of H.P. & Mittie Snellings Ritch.
Bob's career was as a civil engineer building bridges for the State of Georgia Highway Department. He retired with over 40 years of service.
Bob married Mary Knight Vaughn from Fitzgerald, Ga. July 6, 1940 and moved to Hapeville, Georgia in 1945 where he lived until his death in 1976. While he never legally adopted his stepdaughter Verlyn, he raised her as his own and she used the surname Ritch. (Verlyn's biological father was Daniel McKinzey Vaughn).
Bob and Mary had a son, Robert Jr., who was severely mentally handicapped. They tried to raise Little Bob at home, but in 1947 they took him to Gracewood State School in Augusta, Ga. where he lived until he moved to a group home in Fayetteville, Georgia in 2013.
Bob died of lung cancer. His wife Mary died two years later. Verlyn Ritch Thomas lives in Newnan, Ga.
