Eva was the daughter of Edward Hughes Cantwell and Caroline Taylor Cantwell Catcott. She was sister to Sister Catherine "Kate" Ellen Cantwell, Mary Caroline "Carrie" Cantwell Kelly, Edward Wolfetone Cantwell and Edna Cantwell Catcott. She also had numerous half-brothers and sisters. On 10 Feb 1886 Eva married John K. Loughlin, Jr. and together they became the parents of 9 children: Caroline "Carrie" E Loughlin McNally, Henry "Harry" Clay Loughlin, Edward C. Loughlin, Kathleen Marie Loughlin Prince, Eleanor Loughlin, Evelyn Loughlin Vanderslice, Mary L. Loughlin Hickey, John "Jack" Kane Loughlin III and Alice F Loughlin. Two of the children, Edward and Eleanor, died in infancy. Although Eva's gravestone is marked that she was born in 1868, the 1870 census stated that she was 8 years old at the time. Like many proper ladies of her time she probably never really revealed her true age to others. ("You go, girl!")
