Obituary published in Naperville Sun on February 11, 2009:

Arlean Marie Boelter (nee Schmidt), former resident of Naperville, passed away at the age of 98 on January 27, 2009.

Arlean was born in Crofton, NE, on July 24, 1910. Her father, C.F. Schmidt, was a circuit minister of the Evangelical Church and he and his wife Anna frequently moved their family of eight children to rural communities throughout Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas. Arlean completed normal school classes before graduating from Sutton, Nebraska High School and spent the next year teaching at a one-room country schoolhouse to earn money for college. She then continued a family tradition by coming to Naperville to attend North Central College. She graduated in 1934 with a major in English. "Miss Schmidt" taught at both Naper and Ellsworth Elementary Schools in Naperville until her marriage to Evangelical United Brethren minister Francis W. Boelter in 1937. The Boelter's lived in Sacramento CA, Deerfield, IL and LeMars, IA, before settling in Naperville in 1953. (Dr. Boelter was Professor of Old Testament Theology at Evangelical Theological Seminary.)

During her 25 year residency in Naperville, she was active in Community United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She and her husband then lived in Evanston, IL, and San Jose CA, until Dr. Boelter's death in 1983. She spent the last 14 years residing at Fairview Village in Downers Grove.

Arlean was a gifted story-teller and speaker, active in debate, speech and acting in both high school and college. She and her husband traveled throughout the world, spending a year each in Heidelberg, Jerusalem and Beirut.

She is survived by her five children, Bob (Dia) Boelter, Sharon (Norm) Braveman, Joy (Chuck) Kelly, Ginger (Denis) Brese and Paul (Margaret) Boelter; seven grandchildren, Josh Braveman, Jennifer Silber, Liz Phelan, Matt Boelter, Ben Boelter, Molly Brese and Tom Brese; and two great-grandchildren, Talia Silber and Sam Braveman.

A memorial service will be held at Koten Chapel, North Central College, 329 E. School St., on Saturday, February 14 at 2:00 PM. A memorial fund has been set up in her memory at North Central College.
