Thomas Evan Richards Burt, 74, of 199 Oonoga Way, died Monday, Feb. 20, at Park West Hospital, Knoxville, Tenn., following a one-month illness. Born in Shamokin on June 28, 1931, he was a son of the late Thomas Evan and Blanche Dorothy (Lark) Richards.His father died before his birth and his mother remarried Mattison Andrew Burt, who adopted him at birth, and he was the grandson of the Revs. Thomas W. Richards and Josephine B. Richards, former pastors of Mount Zion Welsh Congregational United Church of Christ in Shamokin, and Thomas F. and Blanche H. (Sowers) Lark. He lived in Loudon for three years. He was a 1949 graduate of Shamokin High School, and also graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md in 1953. He held a master's degree from Penn State University. He served in the Navy for 24 years, and then worked in various management positions for government contractors for 20 years. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. On Oct. 17, 1987, in Vienna, Va., he married Norma Arthur, who survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters and sons, Linda Delbridge of Incline Village, Nev., Leslie Brown of Winter Park, Fla., Thomas Rutledge of Georgia, Michelle Campbell of Orlando, Fla., Evan Richard Burt of Orlando, Fla., and Brian Thomas Burt of Durham, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Lauren Brown, Patrick Brown, Casey Lin Brown, Evan Burt, Thomas Joshua Burt, Cody Campbell and Kate Campbell; and an aunt, Miriam Richards Knoebel of Elysburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mattison and Robert Burt.
