Ella Louise Marshall, the daughter of Joseph Chapple and Estella Smith, was born September 18, 1923 and was reared in Houston's Greater 5th Ward community where she attended Atherton Elementary and Phyllis Wheatley High School. At an early age she became a member of Canaan Baptist Church, and later united at Mt. Horem Baptist Church where she remained for more than 20 years.
Ella Louise passed away on April 2, 1969 from widespread carcinoma due to breast cancer. Her funeral services were held at Mt. Horem Baptist Church at 1915 Lockwood Drive, Houston on Monday, April 7, 1969 at 11 AM. Ross Mortuary handled her burial and she was interred in Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Houston, TX on April 7, 1969.
