ARMISTEAD, MARGARET S.
Margaret Skinner Armistead, known as Peggy, a longtime resident of Pelham Manor and New Rochelle, NY, died peacefully on November 24, 2006 at Calvary Hospital.

Born in Holyoke, MA in 1925 to William and Margaret Skinner, Peggy graduated from Milton Academy and Briarcliff College in 1947 she married Dr. George C. Armistead, Jr., head resident physician at the New York Hospital, and lived in Peter Cooper Village. The family moved to Pelham Manor in 1947 and then to New Rochelle in 1997.

Peggy was an active member of Christ the Redeemer Church for 50 years. For many years she was also a member of the Junior League of Pelham, the International Garden Club, the Manor Club and Shenorock Shore Club. She sang with the original Pelham League Larks in the '60s and frequently volunteered her time for the local thrift shop. She was also a bookkeeper during the '70s and '80s. Peggy loved to play bridge, participating in many club tournaments and enjoyed entertaining in her home. All who knew Peggy were touched by her kindness, grace and decency.

Peggy was predeceased by her husband George C. Armistead, Jr., who died in 1990. She is survived by sons, George C. Armistead, III of New Rochelle and William S. Armistead of Arlington, VA, a daughter Margaret A. Selig of New Rochelle, and grandsons Andrew and Peter Selig. She is also survived by a brother and sister. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Church in Pelham Manor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ the Redeemer Church or to the charity of your choice.
