Obituary
The Oklahoman
12/13/2004 - 12/14/2004
Madeline Keel Bemo, 82, of Stratford, OK, formerly of Oklahoma City, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2004, at Edmond Memorial Hospital, Edmond, OK. She was born the daughter of Bessie Jane & Lewellyn Dink Keel on January 11, 1922, one of 10 children, in Stratford, OK. She attended Carter Seminary School, Stratford Junior High and Haskell Indian Institute in Lawrence, Kansas, graduating in 1940. During WWII, Madeline received training on the North Base of Oklahoma University in Norman, OK, to begin work at Douglas Aircraft. As many of the young women going to work during the war years, Madeline became part of the group known as "Rosie the riveter". Madeline later attended Blackwood's Business College in Oklahoma City. Madeline then began a long career of Government Service. She went to work for Tinker Airforce Base in Midwest City, OK in 1951. She spent the next 20 years at Tinker and in 1971 transferred to McCelland Airforce Base in Sacramento, CA. Madeline was a very proud woman and took great pride in her work. Madeline retired from Government Service in 1975 and returned to Oklahoma City, to be close to her grandchildren. In 1984, Madeline moved back to Stratford, OK. Madeline was half Chickasaw Indian and very proud of her heritage. Madeline was the epitome of Courage, Integrity, and Honesty as those who knew her can attest. Madeline was the example for all these values to her son and grandchildren. Mom will be remembered by those of us that loved her as a person strong in her will, her beliefs, her faith, and again in her values. She will always be in our hearts and will be remembered with love and affection. Madeline was preceded in death by her parents Bessie Jane & Lewellyn Dink Keel. She is survived by her only son and spouse Robert F. & Danera Bemo, Oklahoma City, OK; three grandsons and spouses Lance Allan Bemo & Rose, Jason Lee & Courtney Bemo, Oklahoma City, OK, and Chebon Duncan Bemo, Washington state; one step granddaughter & husband, Michelle & Denver Park, one great grandson, Hunter Lee Bemo and one step great grandson Tyler Garton; five brothers, Jay Keel, Ada, OK, Earl Keel, Houston, TX, Kenneth Keel, Stratford, OK, Leland Keel, VA, Bob Keel, Oklahoma City, OK; four sisters, Ann Butler, Chicago IL, Monzella Golden, Stratford, OK, Ruth Moss, Oklahoma City, OK, Betty Lucas, Denver, CO, and numerous nephews and nieces.
