Tonkawa Rites Held For Sterling Bittle
Last rites for Sterling Bittle, 84, pioneer of Tonkawa and Braman, who died late Friday, were held Sunday afternoon in the McCafferty funeral home with Rev. Carl Boyd, pastor of the Christian church, in charge. Burial was made at Orlando.
Mr. Bittle had been bedfast for seven months at the home of his son, Dewey Bittle, 106 South Tenth.
Making the run into Oklahoma, Mr. Bittle staked his claim east of Orlando. He was a mail carrier for 25 years and was one of the first rural carriers in the state.
He made his home at Orlando and this vicinity until about two years ago when he went to live with his son here.
Survivors are: three daughters, Ada Marker and May Bittle, both of Oklahoma City, and Alma Isenberg of Corpus Christi, Texas; one son, Dewey Bittle of Tonkawa; a brother, William of Los Angeles, and four grandchildren.
