Emaline "Emily" Reese Goldsmith was the 3rd of seven children born to John James Goldsmith (1811 - 1894) and Susan Reese Hamilton (1819 - 1896). Emily was born March 20, 1844, in Winchester, Illinois. Her father, John, was 32 and her mother, Susan, was 24 at the time of her birth.

On Oct 9th, 1865, Emily married David S Dessau (1837 - 1881). David was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany, along with two sisters, Sophia Dessau Reinbach (1833 - 1904), and Frederica Dessau Swain (1834 - 1907). The Dessau siblings were members of the Ashkenazim Jewish faith.

David and Emily had three children;

♡ Georgiana "Georgie" Louise Dessau (1867 – 1944)
♡ Erle S Dessau (1869 – )
♡ Susan Amy Dessau (1873 – 1949)

David was a Druggist. After his sudden death at the age of 45, Emily married Joseph Warburton on September 24, 1884, in Los Angeles, California. She was buried in Waverly, Illinois.

After the death of 1st husband, David S Dessau in 1881, Emaline "Emily" Reese Goldsmith Dessau married Joseph Warburton in Los Angeles, CA in 1884.
