Robert Doyle McKamey, 80, passed away at his home in Collinsville, Ill., on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, surrounded by his family.
Bob was born July 2, 1934 in Cloverdale, the son of Arley McKamey and Nola Smith Burk. He was a graduate of Roachdale High School with the class of 1953. He Married Kaye Flint in 1953, and they celebrated their 60th anniversary last November.
Bob is survived by his wife and three children, RondaMcKamey of Collinsville, Vickie (Dan) Zeliff of Troy,Ill., and David (Joanna) McKamey of Tavares, Fla. He was a beloved PaaPaa to Jeremy Wallace of Roacjdale, Michelle (Antoine) Martin of Augusta, Ga., Nicholas (Anna) Boller of Florence, Ky., Amanda (Justin) Sohn of Richmond, Mo., Corine Zeliff of St. Clair, Mo., Ashley Zeliff of the U.S. Navy, Brian Zeliff of Troy, and C.J. McKamey of Tavares and also 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preced in death by his mother and stepfather Nola and Charlie Burk, an infantdaughter, Jennie Lynn McKamey, brothers Chet and Don McKamey and sisters Peg and Anita.
Bob worked for Lone Star Cement in Greencastle as an electician and later transferred to their plant in Miami, Fla. He retired in 1988 after a total of 35 years with the company, and after a year of retirement, went back to work again for Tarmac, who had bought out Lone Star. He worked for another 10 years, retiring again when he reached 65 years of age. They then moved to their children and grandchildren.
Bob loved to Tease and was known as Uncle White Socks and Ugly Mutt to his many nieces and nephews, and he had his own nicknames for them. He will be sorely missed.
A memorial service wiil be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Brick Chapel United Methodist Church in Geencastle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
