STILSON, Ga. – Mrs. Neysa Scarborough Martin, age 87, of Stilson, Georgia died Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Wellstar Cobb General Hospital after a short illness. The Dublin, Georgia native married M.P. Martin, Jr. in 1944. They lived in Americus and The Rock before moving to their home in Stilson in 1953. "Miss Neysa" was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved baking, sewing, and visiting with family and friends. She was active in her children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's activities. She had been a 4-H volunteer and a member of the Southeast Bulloch High School booster organizations. She was a member of the Brooklet United Methodist Church and was a teacher of the Laliah Moore Sunday School Class, served as a Confirmation Class Mentor, and was active in Lydia Circle and the Birthday Club. She had also served as United Methodist Women President and had been a Statesboro District UMW Officer. She received the Quiet Disciple Mission recognition and served her church through the pecan pie ministry. She was a member of the Brooklet Homemaker Club and the Stilson Canasta Club.
"Miss Neysa" was preceded in death by her husband, M.P. Martin, Jr., her parents, Guy and Martha Scarborough, her brothers, Ray and Joe Scarborough, and a sister, Guynelle Scarborough Marlow Fordyce.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Neysa and Chester Curtis of Oxford, Mississippi, and three sons and daughters-in-law, Millard and Tonia Martin of Ashland City, Tennessee, Ben and Donna Martin of Stilson, John and Wanda Martin of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and grandchildren, Millicent and Clint Mayo of Cleveland, Mississippi, Casey and Sarah Martin of Waycross, Monica and Brian Judd of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Erin and John Hunter of Brooklet, Rachel and Fred Walters of Punta Gorda, Florida, Susannah and Luke Lanier of Metter, David and Lindsey Martin of Indianapolis, Indiana, Becca and Richie Turner of Moultrie, John Paul Martin of Albany, and Mary Bea Martin of Madison; and great-grandchildren Austen Mayo; Destiny, C.J., Abrahm, and Ezra Martin; Benjamin, Catherine, Mary Scott, and Anna Judd; Tyler and Sarah Grace Hunter; Mary Martin, Georgia, and Julia Walters; and Carolyne and Ret Turner. Additional survivors include two brothers and one sister-in-law, Andy and Betty Scarborough of Dublin and Corky Scarborough of Atlanta, and a dear sister-in-law Annie Ruth Cartee of Statesboro.
Visitation will be held at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 4 PM to 7 PM.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Brooklet United Methodist Church with Rev. Wes Moye and Rev Joel Dent officiating.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Casey Martin, Clint Mayo, Richie Turner, John Paul Martin, John Hunter, Fred Walters, David Martin and Luke Lanier.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Lila Moore Sunday School Class, the Lydia Circle, Elizabeth Dean and Janice and Roosevelt Cone.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Brooklet United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Pre-School Scholarship Fund, 201 North Parker, Ave. Brooklet, Ga. 30415.
