Death: Dec. 19, 1903
Kingston (Adams County)

Son of George Wesley Hastings and Mary Ann (Winner) Hastings who lived near Kingston, Illinois at the time. Richard died at age 16 from injuries from a tragic house fire the family suffered, just before Christmas one year. The story can be found in the Quincy Newspaper archives. The headline is "Lost Home And Son In Flames." Richard was badly burnt. Later, he got up from his deathbed, went outside, knelt and prayed, went back in, laid down and died. As reported in the Quincy Daily Journal, 22 December 1903, front page. The newspaper story says Richard is buried at "The Winner cemetery, two and a half miles south of Beverly (Illinois.)"
