METHUEN - Alan A. Abbott, 78, of Methuen, a World War II veteran and former executive at a Haverhill company, died Thursday, July 11 at the Oxford Manor Nursing Home in Haverhill. He was the husband of the late Claire T. (Topping) Abbott,

He was born in Lawrence, and graduated from Edward F. Searles High School in Methuen. He was also a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music.

Mr. Abbott was a sergeant in the Army during World War II.

Mr. Abbott was the vice president of Metal Flake Industries of Haverhill for 37 years.

He attended St. Monica's Church in Methuen. He was an avid golfer and held memberships in Merrimac and Andover Country Club,. and for the past 35 years, he was a member of Vesper Country Club in Tyngsboro.

He is survived by a son, Geoffrey W. Abbott, residing in California. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Mary A. Lamprey of Andover; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
