Ernestine (Evans) Abel, 84, of Stroud Township, died Friday morning, May 24, at Kindred Hospital in Easton. She was the widow of Floyd Abel who died March 24, 1973.
Born on October 19, 1928 in Brownsville, TN, she was a daughter of the late Tom and Alice (Barbie) Evans and lived in Stroudsburg since 1965.
She worked as a waitress at the Oyster House in Stroudsburg for thirty years and was a long-time member of the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church.
Surviving are: five children, Melvin Abel of Stroudsburg, Ralph Abel and his wife Ellen of Loveland, OH, Karl Abel of East Stroudsburg, Tina Abel of Royersford and Sandy Bennett and her husband Paul of Somerset, NJ; three grandchildren, Kelly Abel, Brandon Bennett and Corey Bennett; a sister, Fannie Brown of Detroit, MI; a brother, Will Evans and his wife Lucy of Milwaukee, WI and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Alphonia Evans, Barbee Evans and Glen Evans and two sisters, Bernice Evans and Emma Morrison.
There will be a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00PM Friday, May 31, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. The funeral service will begin at 11:00AM Saturday, June 1, at the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, 547 Main Street, Stroudsburg with the Rev. Robert Shank officiating. Burial will follow in Stroudsburg Cemetery.
