Samuel Brandenburg is drowning victim
The body of Samuel O. Brandenburg, 58, of Fort Wayne, was found at 1:30 p.m.
Thursday floating face down in a farm pond near Onstead, Mich.
Brandenburg had last been seen in a canoe, fishing on the pond about 11:30 a.m.,
neighbors reported. It was a neighbor who found Brandenburg.
Lanawee County sheriff's deputies said he had drowned when he fell out of a canoe.
The Lenawee County medical examiner was called for an autopsy to determine the exact
cause of death and ruled accidental drowning.
He was in charge of maintenance at First Federal Savings and Loan and attended the
Harvester Avenue Missionary church. He was a former resident of Convoy, Ohio.
He was born on November 8, 1914, in Van Wert County, Ohio, the son of Harry and
Flora Hamilton-Brandenburg, and was married to Lois Hamrick on August 1, 1936. He
was the son-in-law of Cal Hamrick of Decatur.
Surviving are his wife, Lois; two sons, Roger, Fort Wayne, and Ralph E. a
missionary and two sisters, Mrs. Opal Mallory, Akron, Ohio, and Mrs Elsie Kiehl, West
Unity, Ohio. Ralph is a missionary in the Dominican Republic (Santiago) and had
worked at the Fort Wayne Bible College for several years.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at the Zwick Funeral Home at 2 p.m., with Rv.
Oscar Eichar and Rev. Dave Shoppy officiating. Burial will be in the Willshire, Ohio
cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday.
