|Birth: ||unknown, Ireland|
|Death: ||1812, At Sea|
James Culbertson: born in Ireland, supposedly in County Tyrone. Died in the Atlantic crossing and buried at sea somewhere between 1812-1813.
He and his family were sailing from Newton-Stewart, County Tyrone. His wife, Jane, and the remainder of his immigrating family settled in what was formerly Campbell County, and is now Kenton County, Kentucky. The area where they settled was once known as Culbertson Station but is now called Spring Lake.
His wife Jane survived him and died in 1839 at age 72. She was buried in the family cemetery behind her son William's home at "Hibernia Hall." To make room for railroad expansion, her remains were moved with the rest of the family cemetery to Independence Cemetery in Independence, Kenton County, Kentucky.
James had 8 children who survived him: James, Margaret, Sidney, William, Allen, Robert, Sarah, and Mary. His name as well as the names of his sons are repeated nearly constantly between the generations of the family.
