James Thurman "J.T." Carroll
Birth: Jan. 23, 1926
Carter County
Kentucky, USA
Death: Feb. 15, 1999
Butler County
Ohio, USA

Born in a humble Carter County, Kentucky cabin, "Thurman" worked hard to succeed by joining the Navy during World War II, although he was underage, and completed his education (two education degrees) at Morehead, Kentucky after leaving the service. J.T. began his teaching career at Marshall High School (and also drove the school bus to pick-up his students), near Hillsboro, Highland County, Ohio. His second teaching assignment moved the family to Waverly, Pike County, Ohio (Waverly High School). During this time, he helped build the sanctuary of the Waverly Church of Christ, and worked to establish Maysville (Kentucky) Church of Christ. His third teaching assignment took the family to Washington Court House, Fayette, Ohio (Washington High School). After two severe heart attacks, he was forced to retire from teaching. He retired to Florida, trying to recover in hopes to begin teaching again. However, his health was never fully restored. The family returned to Ohio with a move to Springdale (outside Cincinnati) May of 1977. He was always active in the Forest Dale church, up until his death of complications due to heart disease.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13, NIV)
