Her father, Jan, who had immigrated from Poland, worked as an explosives expert in the coal mines. Although he was never injured while performing this dangerous work, he would eventually succumb to black lung disease in June of 1942.
As a child growing up in Minersville, Tess attended the local schools. On 17 Sep 1941, she married Kenneth Earl Gauntlett at St. Stanislaus. Kenny and Tess welcomed their first child, Kenneth William Gauntlett, followed by daughter, Patricia, and son, James Earl Gauntlett.
They lived, for many years, in Minersville, and Kenny became the owner and operator of several large trucking companies associated with the coal industry.
Their daughter Pat (Patricia A. Beare, Ph.D.), became an internationally respected expert in adult nursing, and served on the nursing faculty at LSU's Health Sciences Center in New Orleans until her retirement.
Tessie passed away 17 May 1996, and is buried with her parents, John and Rose Krupa, in Row M, Lot #257 at the St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Cemetery on Llewellyn Road, Minersville, Pennsylvania.
Her twin brothers, Thomas and Frank Krupa, who died in infancy, are buried nearby in Row N, Lot #264 with William "Bill" Allar, the husband of Tessie's oldest sister, Mary.
