This page is in honor and memory of Travis Joshua Cherry who made the ultimate scarifice for his family and country. Travis enlisted in the US Navy on 15 May 1936 Houston Texas.He served aboard the USS Tippecanoe and transferred to the USS Mississippi BB-41 from 31 Mar 1939 thru 30 Apr 1940. In 1940 he served aboard the Heavy Cruiser USS Houston CA-30. The last battle for the USS Houston was the Battle of Sunda Strait. The Houston sank and Travis's body was non-recoverable. At the time of his death Travis held the rank of GMC3. Travis was accepted into The Purple Heart Hall of Honor in June 2011. His father Eugene received the Purple Heart via mail in 1942. Travis left behind his father,Eugene Oliver Cherry and sisters,Mable and Esther,brothers,Franklin,Horace,Edward E. and Lewis H.Cherry...Two sisters and his mother Mary C. Cherry preceeded him in death. Travis has a memorial in Manilla Philliphines American Cemetery.
