Charles died in the Cambridge Relief Hospital at the age of 65 from edema of the lungs. He was survived by his son, Major Charles Lyman Bent (103512914).

The funeral of Charles R. Bent, who died on Saturday at the Cambridge Relief Hospital, took place on Thursday afternoon in the First Universalist Church on Inman Street. The pastor Rev. Dr. George W. Bicknell, conducted the services, after which the Grand Army ritual was carried out by the officers of Charles Beck Post 56, of which Mr. Bent was a member. Burial was in the family lot in Cambridge Cemetery.
Mr. Bent was born in Boston in 1844, and was a Phillips School Franklin Medal student in the class of 1859. He resided in Cambridge until the breaking out of the war, which he enlisted in the Forty-fourth Massachusetts Infantry. After the war he returned to Cambridge and continued his vocation as a compositor in the University Press and then in the Riverside Press, where he worked until a few days before his death.
He was married in 1869 to Antoinette Spare, of Cambridge. His wife died in 1874. A son, Captain Charles L. Bent, graduated from West Point, in 1894, served in the army until 1907, and is now employed in a railroad office in Omaha, Neb.
At the funeral, delegations from the Riverside Press were in attendance, and beautiful floral tributes were sent by his fellow-employees and Grand Army comrades.
