Rudy graduated from Sandusky High School in 1944. He then did a stint in the Navy from 1944-1946. He then went to Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA where he got a degree in English. He met Ruth in New York City, where he worked as an advertising copywriter. They got married in 1956. In 1968, he accepted a position as a law clerk in the Middleburg law firm of his former fraternity brother Irvin Graybill. In 1974, he graduated from Washburn Law School in Topeka, KS. He went back to Middleburg and practiced with Irvin until his death. He was active on the church vestry at All Saints Episcopal Church in Selinsgrove, PA, where he made his home. He was also a member of the Snyder County Historical Society.
