Beulah Adah Canright was born in Michigan in 1908 to Clifton Lester Canright and Adah May Hall Canright. She had three older siblings: Leslie J. Lester "Jack" Canright, Medah Blanche Canright La Turno, and Rev. Clifton Orley "Bud" Canright Horton.
When Beulah was 10 months old, her mother died from typhoid fever. After Adah's death, only Leslie Jack remained with his father. For a time, Medah Blanche lived with her maternal grandparents, Orley and Eva Hall; she was then raised by her maternal aunt, Bessie Elvira Hall Katz Walsworth. Clifton Orley was adopted by William H. and Sarah L. Horton, who were family friends. Beulah was adopted by Charles and Alma A. Carpenter Hannant, also family friends, who changed her name to Beulah Evelyn Hannant. Their son, Guy F. Hannant, was 17 years old at the time. By the 1910 census, the family was living in Portland, Oregon. Buelah grew up not knowing her birth family, but the siblings did find one another in adulthood.
This memorial is in progress. Many thanks to contributor Nathan Haines for information on the Hannant family.
If you have knowledge of any of the people named here, or their families, please contact the manager of this memorial, who is the great-niece of Beulah. Thank you.
