James Frank Booth was the son of William Booth and Ann (Anna) S. (Brown) Booth. He married first about 1861 and had two children. His spouse and children were deceased by the time of his marriage in the late 1860s to Merinda T. Whitehouse Montague Watkins, a widow with two children. He was the brother of Henry W. Booth and living with Henry and his wife Maryann (Merinda's half-sister) at the time of his death.

Civil War Service:
Frank enlisted at Tecumseh, Michigan, where he was a resident, on 23 Aug 1864 as a Fourth Corporal in Co. A, 3rd Michigan Infantry Regiment. Promoted to Full Corporal on 15 Dec 1864. Promoted to Full Sergeant on 01 Mar 1866. Mustered out on 25 May 1866 at Victoria, TX.
