Her Birth: On April 4, 1933 in Carthage, MS, Nomie Jean Dotson Allen was born to the late Fred Dotson and Scennie Overstreet Dotson. Nomie was the fourth of seven children, six of them preceded her in death, (Claudie Griffen, Hattie Clarke, Johnnie Pearl Flowers, Bernice Hunter, J.C. Dotson and Scennie Perry).
Her Life: Nomie moved with her family from Carthage, MS to Belzoni, MS as a younger girl after the death of their mother.
Nomie confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and joined Belzoni Chapel Baptist Church. On September 23, 1949 she married the love of her life Herbert Clark Allen, Sr. and they shared 56 wonderful years together. To their blessed union nine children were born. She joined Rose Hill Baptist church with her husband and severed as an usher. After Rose Hill Church burned, the family moved their membership to Christian Valley M.B. Church, Silver City. She served as usher, treasure of the usher board and in later years she served as a mother of the church. She loved Sunday school, bible study, and visiting other churches.
Herbert Clark Allen, Sr. and son Carl Earl Allen also preceded her in death.
Her Legacy: On, Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 12:10 p.m., God sent his angel to escort Nomie home. She leaves to honor her memory her children: three daughters: Mary Jean (Raymond) Hawkins, Belzoni, MS; Charlene (Albert) Anderson, Silver City, MS; Grace (Edwin Glenn) Younger, Raymond, MS; five sons: Herbert Clark (Linda) Allen Jr., Silver City, MS; Albert (Cynthia) Allen, Gulfport, MS; Clarence (Geraldine) Allen, Yazoo City, MS; Freddie (Zina) Allen, Silver City, MS; Michael (Jacqueline) Allen, Dacula, GA; daughter-in-law: Francine Allen, Isola, MS; A very special nephew: Charles Van (Mary) Allen, Silver City, MS; 21 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great- grand child; one sister-in-law, Bernice Allen, Chicago, IL; one brother-in-law, Thester Gates, Chicago, IL; special friend: Gwen "Pizza" Kirk, Ann Arbor, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
