Ameta was born in Washington County, Georgia to Archibald Cone and Penelope Baker. Her parents brought her to Texas when she was just a toddler. Ameta married Jacob T. Burrows in 1867 and after he passed away in early 1909, Ameta went to live with her youngest daughter, Ameta Wilkes, in Smithville, Texas.
The federal census conducted in April of 1910 found the widowed Ameta Burrows (69) living with her daughter Ameta Wilkes in Smithville, Bastrop County. Her son-in-law was an assistant bank cashier.
Ameta died in 1928 in Smithville at the age of 87 years. Her certificate of death states the cause of death was senility (old age).
