According to another FindAGrave contributor, on her 18th birthday, January 27, 1855, Catherine Hunter married William Claiborn Smith. Together they had six children: John Preston, William Claiborn Jr, Mary Alice, Susan Isabel, Bessie, and Catherine "Kate". After her husband was killed in 1865, the young widow married Abraham "Abe" Allen and they had four children: Robert E. Lee, Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzy", Martha J. "Mattie", and William B. She was first buried in the Pettigrew cemetery, then later moved to the Farmington cemetery.
