Sep. 18, 1856 Munfordville Hart County Kentucky, USA
Son of John Adwell, Jr. and Mary Hale. Born bet. 1820-1825. Charged the murder of Radford T. Bailey along with his brother John. Josh Adwell petitioned the court for a change of venue from Barren Co. which was granted. The record of the remainder of the (Josh) Adwell case was handed down in Hart Co. by word of mouth. Tradition is that Josh Adwell was tried in Hart Circuit Court, convicted, and hanged on a walnut tree in the river bottom below Munfordville. Said to be buried in unmarked grave. Another man confessed years later that he was the killer and the Adwell brothers were innocent.
