Johan Emil Johnson was born JOHAN EMIL JOHN. He was a son of Johan Gotfred John and Caroline Emilie Reiersen. He came to the U.S. in 1870 and settled in Hydesville, Humboldt County, California, where he was a farmer. After he died, he was buried next to his sister, Dorothea Caroline (John) Mogensen at Myrtle Grove Cemetery.

"HYDESVILLE, April 1 --Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in Eureka over the remains of the late Emil Johnson, who died late Thursday afternoon in the Sequoia Hospital after a lingering illnuess, the Rev. Borup officiating, assisted by a choir.
"The body was placed temporarily in the Eugies receiving vault in Myrtle Grove cemetery until the vault, being made, is finished, then the remians will be laid beside those of his sister, Mrs. Mogensen, who died in .
"Mr. Johnson leaves to mourn his passing a brother in law, Mr. Sophus Mogensen of Eureka, three nephews and two nieces in eureka, a niece, Mrs. Flora Knudsen of Ferndale and two sisters in Denmark besides hosts of friends in all parts of the county, especially in and around Hydesville where he had made his home for nearly 40 years, leaving here the last time to enter the Sequoia Hospital about three weeks ago.
