Mr. Pickard was born August 15, 1863 at the old Pickard homestead on Spring Creek, the son of W. S. and Ellen Pickard. He grew to a young manhood there and when of proper age attended the Veal Station College,one of the famous schools of Texas at that time, operated by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
When a young man, before his marriage,he was employed by the famous Turkey Track Ranch, and went up the Chisolm Trail with several thousand head of cattle, destined for Kansas and the far north.
In 1886 he ws united in marriage to Miss Maria Kerr, also a member of a pioner family. He is also survived by three children Dr. Luther J. Pickard, Abilene: Mrs Lucy MacKenzie, Weatherford: Mrs Sturart Chapin, Minneapolis Minn.
