Lucy Kathleen Haws Abshere. After a heroic fight with cancer, Lucy Kathleen Haws Abshere left this life on Tuesday, June 25, 2002. Kathleen was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma, on August 28, 1920; graduated high school from Mountain View, Oklahoma; received her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the University of Oklahoma and her Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance from Eastern New Mexico University. She served for 20 years in Lefors, Texas, Oklahoma City, and Hobbs, New Mexico as a classroom teacher on many levels, Public School Music Supervisor, and High School Counselor. She retired to Oklahoma City where she and her husband of 62 years, Marle Owen Abshere, have lived since 1964. They belong to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club, Uptown Kiwanis Club, Sooner Dinner Club, Mayfair Dance Club, Civic Music Association, Listeners Book Club and numerous other civic and social organizations. Kathleen has also been active in Red Bud Womens' Club, Oklahoma Art Museum, Womens' Music Club, Sewing Club, Third Friday Book Club, Women of Westminster, Oklahoma Art League, and has been a board member of Oklahoma City University Lyric Theater.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Fern Haws, and her brother, Charles H. Haws. Survivors include her devoted husband, Marle O. Abshere, daughter, Nancy Kathleen Plattsmier and her husband, Don, of Fort Worth, Texas and their children, Amy and her husband Jason Gonsky, Amanda and David; son, Dr. Philip M. Abshere, his former wife, Deborah, and their children, Alison, Erin and Mark; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; long inseparable allies, Doretha and Lawrence Van Horn and their children and many treasured friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cancer Society. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2002 at Westminster Presbyterian Church
