Birth: 1901
Death: 1977

He was born Wildene L. Allentharp. He may have changed the spelling of his name due to his notoriety as a murderer. On October 18, 1924, Delta County (CO) Sheriff Willis Davis confronted Allentharp near Leadville, Colorado. Davis had an arrest warrant for Allentharp for theft out of Delta County. Davis had known Allentharp since he was a boy. After greeting him, Davis told Allentharp that he was under arrest. Allentharp asked if he could get his sweater and pulled a .45 handgun from it. Davis, on seeing the gun, pulled his own weapon, but Allentharp fired three shots, one hitting Davis in the side. As Allentharp started to run, Davis fired at him, missing, but Allentharp immediately surrendered. A Lake County deputy who had accompanied Davis took Allentharp into custody. Sheriff Davis died from his wound and Allentharp was convicted of 2nd degree murder. He served less than 5 years before being paroled. Sheriff Davis left his wife and 7 children.
