Mabel was born November 1, 1914, near Lucas, daughter of Ode and Josie (Waugh) Mason. Her family moved to the Woodburn area by the time she was old enough to go to school, and she graduated from Woodburn High School in 1933. Mabel attended normal training classes at Simpson College and began teaching school at St. George.
She married Charles Frederick Frizzell on December 23, 1933, at the Christian Church in Grant City, Missouri. After their marriage, they lived with Charlie's parents, as his father's health was failing and Charlie helped them. Mabel continued teaching school through 1934. Charlie and Mabel moved to the Hootman farm south of Woodburn, where their daughter, Peggy Joan, was born.
From 1940 to 1944, they lived on the Pat Howard farm located south of the Smyrna Friends Church. Mabel did supply teaching at the Smyrna School in 1944.
They moved back to the Woodburn area to the Ralph Swan farm on Highway 34 in 1944. Mabel was so happy to be closer to Woodburn again.
In 1949, they moved to the Lewis Neal farm 1-1/2 miles west of the Swan farm and lived there until 1964. During this time, Mabel worked at Snowdon's, Dr. Adam's office, taught school and started working in Des Moines, where she was senior lead clerk at American Republic Insurance for nine years.
Roy Frizzell bought the George Evans farm in 1964 and the family moved there. In 1966, Mabel started working in the office at the Clarke County Hospital. On May 9, 1972, Charlie passed away at their home. Mabel and Peggy remained on the Evans farm until 1974. At this time, Mabel purchased the farm known as the "Cunningham Turkey Farm", later selling all but 40 acres. Mabel worked for the Area 14 Handicapped Preschool until her retirement.
The family belonged to the Woodburn Christian Church, where Mabel served as deaconess and secretary and treasurer of the Sunday School. Mabel was charter member of the Woodburn Unit Clarke County Hospital Auxiliary and was active in the Woodburn Booster Club. Mabel passed away on May 28, 1993, and she and Charlie are buried at the Woodburn Cemetery.
