The Golden Wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Eicher Celebrated.
The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Eicher was celebrated Saturday evening at their residence, No. 128 South Cherry street, the immediate relatives and a few invited friends being present. Mr. Eicher was seventy years old last January and Mrs. Eicher will be seventy-two years old next July. Both are hale and hearty. They have six children married, and twenty-four grand-children.
Mr. Eicher was presented with a handsome gold watch chain, and Mrs. Eicher with a plain gold ring. Mr. William Archinal made the presentation speech, referring to the changes which fifty years wrought in the affairs of nations as well as individuals; the progress art and science had made during the last fifty years, and predicting still greater developments during the next half century. He spoke touchingly about Mr. and Mrs. Eicher's journey through life; under what surroundings their nuptials were celebrated fifty years ago, amid the snow capped mountains in their native Switzerland; how they had in this their adopted country by strict economy and an abiding faith in Providence, accumulated enough to live the remaining years of their lives in comfort and ease, and wishing them God, speed and Heaven's choicest blessings for the remainder of their lives.
The aged couple were totally overcome by their feelings, but after recovering himself sufficiently Mr. Eicher responded in a few well chosen remarks, thanking all those present for this mark of esteem and love. An elegant supper was served and the evening spent pleasantly.
