Earl L. Moffitt, of the Pennsylvania State College, who rounded out 20 years of service as a farm management extension specialist October 19, is reported to be the only one in the country with such a record.
In a letter calling attention to this achievement, H. M. Dixon, in charge of agricultural economics extension, U.S. Department of Agriculture, says: "I know of no other person having near this number of years in this work. I, therefore, congratulate you and hope you will have another successful twenty years."
Moffitt has devoted all but two years of this period to his native Pennsylvania. Appointed farm management extension specialist by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on October 19, 1914, he was assigned to Illinois. The following New Year's Day he went to Maine where he remained until October 15, 1916. Since then he has been a member of the Pennsylvania extension staff.
Approximately 17,000 copies of a farm account book designed by Moffitt have been used in this state alone. Many Lancaster county farmers have kept their accounts in there books for years. Summaries from these books are published by the college. Requests for these have been received from Canada, Mexico, England, Germany, Denmark, Russia, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, Palestine, and Turkey, as well as practically every state in the union.
