Fred S. and Laura D. Baldwin lived on a 160 acre farm just S.E. of Dodge, Clackamas County, OR. As Fred aged and health began to fail, he sold the farm to his wife, Laura, on November 18, 1938 (Book 252, pg 467). Unable to keep up the farm, Laura sold the 160 acres on August 21, 1939 (Book 261, pg 279) and they moved in town to Happy Valley. Laura, born in Pennsylvania in 1879, was about 64 years of age when her husband Fred S. Baldwin passed in November 1944. About three years later Laura met Edgar C. Short of Portland, Oregon (b. 9-9-1877 in Leavenworth, KS) and married him in King County (vol. 165, pg. 310), Washington on March 27, 1947,. After their marriage, they lived at 4835 S.E. Henderson in Portland, OR. Four years later, Edgar passed at age 74 on December 3, 1951 in Multnomah Hospital, Portland, OR. Laura had Edgar's remains cremated by Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland and left the state with his remains according to Mt. Scott Funeral Home records in Portland. Although Laura's name is on the headstone with Fred's, she is not buried there. It is believed she may have moved back to Pennsylvania with family.
