Alice Matilda Buck was first married to an Unknown Hicks, who must have died sometime before 1862 when she married her second husband George H. Dishman, son of Thomas Jefferson and Elizabeth Pierce Dishman. The only evidence I've been able to find of this first marriage is her marriage record to George where she's reported as Alice Matilda Hicks, a widow;

There's no evidence of any children from this first marriage, and they were probably only married a short time before Mr. Hicks died because Alice was only 21 at the time of her second marriage. Her and George were only married a few short years when he was killed in the Civil War.

Enlistment Place: Camp Burnside, Kentucky

State Served: Kentucky
Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 25 February 1864.
Enlisted in Company D, 30th Infantry Regiment Kentucky on 5 Apr 1864.
Died Company D, 30th Infantry Regiment Kentucky on 9 Mar 1865 at Albany, NY. ***this is an error, copies of his original papers show George died in Albany, Ky.

They did have two sons James Marshall b. Mar 1865 in Wayne County, Ky, who went by the Neal name (Alice's 3rd husband who raised the boys until the time of his death), and George Sherman Dishman, b. 27 Sep 1866 in Wayne County, Ky. After George's death Alice married my Grgrgranpa William H. Neal son of Moses and Emaline Vickery Neal on 29 Aug 1867 in Wayne County Kentucky. Alice and William only lived another 10 years before they both died sometime in the summer/fall of 1877. Best guess is one of the epidemics that spread through Wayne County that year. William seems to have died first because Alice is the one who made custody arrangements for their minor children. My Grgranpa Isaac Lewis Neal, b. 23 Jul 1868 in Wayne County was raised by his Gruncle William Vickery and his wife Sarah Hancock Vickery in Wayne County, Kentucky. Custody of the other two children Mary Isabella Neal Hancock, b. 25 Dec 1870 in Wayne County and John Freeman Neal b. 08 Dec 1872 in Wayne County was first given to William H. Neal's brother James Anderson Neal and then was transferred at the children's request to their half brother George Sherman Dishman. George moved to Texas and that's where Mary Isabella and John Freeman lived and died.
