Donald Fred Bissell was born the 11th of April 1924, to Ina and Fred (Walton) Bissell.

Don was in World War II, serving in the Army across the European and Pacific fronts. Although he would never mention it himself, he was awarded service honors that included a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Good Conduct Medal.

Don was the devoted husband of Lea Bissell (Richner) for 64 years; caring father of Bonnie Williams (Jack), Richard (Terri), Marti McHugh-Curtis (Keith), and Fred (Charla); beloved grandfather to 15; great-grandfather to three; and dear brother to Harold Bissell and Marjorie Richner (George).

As a life-long Twinsburg resident, Don was deeply committed to contributing to the betterment of his community. He demonstrated this by serving as a Bank Director of the Twinsburg Banking Company, City Councilman, Rotary Club Member, and as a 75 year Member of the First Congregational Church of Twinsburg. Don was especially known for his exceptional work ethic, as he worked late into his 80's.

In addition to being a life-long farmer, Don owned Bissell Excavating with his son, Richard, and managed several rental properties. His passions included being a charter member of the Northeast Ohio Two Cylinder Club, John Deere tractors, being outdoors, and rooting for Ohio's sports team.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the First Congregational Church of Twinsburg Memorial Fund, VFW Post 4929 of Twinsburg, and Honor Flight Cleveland (1900 Alvin Ave., Cleveland Ohio 44109).

A memorial gathering will be held Friday, the 19th of September 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, 9819 Darrow Road, (Rt.91 at Post Rd.) Twinsburg Ohio 330.425.2244. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 20th 2014 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Twinsburg, 9050 Church Street, Twinsburg Ohio 44087.
