Another Pioneer Has Passed Away
Endre Arestad of Ball Hill Township, Died February 22nd. Was 71 Years Old
Endre Aarestad, pioneer citizen of Griggs county, died at his home in Ball Hill township, in the early morning hours of February 22, after having been confined to his bed for two weeks with an attack of leaukemia.
Mr. Arestad was born in Thime, Norway on the 24th day of June, 1847. He grew to manhood there and was united in marriage in that country to Miss Anna Fuglestad. Mr. Arestad and family made their home in Norway until 1882, when they emigrated to America, settling in Minnesota, where they remained a year, coming to Griggs county in 1883, and taking up a homestead in Ball Hill on which they have since resided.
Mr. Arestad is survived by his wife and six boys, Hans of Alberta, Canada, Torkel of Foster county, and Ingvald, John, Elmer and Casper of Griggs county, all of whom were present at the funeral services. Four children, two girls and two boys preceded their father to the Great Beyond.
Funeral services were held at the Westley church in Sverdrup on Monday afternoon, Feb. 22, at 2 o’clock, following short services at the house. Revs. Njust, Lunde and Eidsaa officiated, each speaking in a fitting manner of the worth of the deceased. The services were largely attended by sorrowing relatives and friends, and interment was made in the Westley church cemetery, the deceased being of the Lutheran faith.
Mr. Arestad was one of the earliest pioneers of Griggs county, and one who by his industry and good citizenship helped greatly in its development. His was a loving husband and father and a good neighbor, a man who commanded the respect of all who knew him. His life was long and useful, and he has passed on to join that constantly growing list of pioneers, whose good deeds done in the body are their monuments and whose lives are an inspiration to those that follow them.
In their great bereavement, Mrs. Arestad and sons have the sincere sympathy of all.
