Birth: Oct. 13, 1851
Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), Germany
Death: May 19, 1925
Rawlins County
Kansas, USA

Henry Ahntholz was born on the 13th of October, 1850 in Graue, Hanover, Germany to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ahntholz, Sr. He was baptized in infancy and thereby was made a member of the Christian Church and an heir of eternal life. As he grew up he was instructed in the fundamental truths of God's Word as they are taught and confessed by the Evangelical Lutheran church. At the age of 14 he was confirmed and received into full communicant membership of this church until death and died in the faith which he confessed, namely, that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

In 1878 he was united in marriage to Eleonore Margareth Schmidt in Germany. Shortly after their marriage they crossed the Atlantic Ocean and came to America to make their home here. They moved to southeastern Nebraska, where they located on a farm in Johnson and Nemaha counties. To them eleven children were born, seven boys and four girls, three of whom died in infancy. On May 16, 1923 his wife was called home to her final reward.

The departed had been suffering for some six years from an ulcer of the stomach which developed into a cancer and caused his death which occurred Tuesday, May 19, 1925 at 2 p.m. at the home of his son Adolph. He leaves to mourn him six sons: Herman F., Lew F., Henry W., Wm. E., Adolph and George, living in Rawlins and Cheyenne counties, Kansas; his daughters Mrs. Henry Merz and Mrs. Dan Hoffman living northeast of Newkirk, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.

He reached the age of 74 years, 7 months and 6 days. "The days of our years are three score and ten; and if by reason of strength they may be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off and we fly away. Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, for their works do follow them."

The funeral services were held Thursday, May 21, 1925 at 2 p.m. at the Federated Church, McDonald, Kansas, Rev. A. G. Bretthauer, Bird City, Kansas, officiating. Interment was made in the McDonald cemetery.
