Alfred was a Captain in 1st Tn Inf. Union Army, August 9, 1861 to September 1864. He also was granted a teaching certificate at the Teachers Institute in Crossville, TN. He taught school in the 1860's according to the census of Cumberland Co., TN. In 1894, the Chronicle listed Alfred as serving as a Justice of the Peace.
Alfred's grave is on a hill above the rest area just east of Crab Orchard, Cumberland Co., TN, exit on I-40. There are a total of seventeen graves and the first inside the gate is Alfred's.
