Wesley was working at the Embree Iron Works when he enlisted in the United States Army on 19 September 1917 in Erwin, Unicoi County, Tennessee with service number 1859039. He was assigned to Company I, 324th Infantry Regiment, 162nd Infantry Brigade, 81st Division. Wesley arrived France with his unit on 5 August 1918. Prior to being assigned to Company I, he was with the Supply Company, 327th Infantry Regiment until 14 October 1917 and the Headquarters Company, 324th Infantry Regiment until 22 October 1917.
Wesley died of pneumonia on 26 October 1918, he was 24 years old. Wesley participated in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive Unit Campaign.
Wesley was the son of Milton Zachary Furches, Sr and Virgie Rogers. He was married to Luna Bell Starnes and they had one daughter, Welda Mae who died at age 7. Luna never remarried.
