| | Pete Blanton | | | Learn about upgrading this memorial... | | Birth: | unknown | | Death: | 1877 Apache County Arizona, USA | Part of Snyder/Caviness Gang. Was killed in a shootout over loot by fellow outlaw Frank Owen according to William Caviness alias Bill Snider. (See William Caviness Memorial # 91740046 in same burial ground).
However, years later however, Gustav Becker related that Blanton had been killed by a member of a Mexican-American posse who tore the boards off the roof of a building where Pete was hiding and shot him from above in after he had killed a Mexican-American in St. Johns. The Arizona Weekly Star reported at the time that "Pete the Desperado" was killed at St. John's and that his accomplice, Spencer, surrendered and was let go. It seems likely then, that Caviness was in error.
