Raymond J. McFadden
Aug. 29, 1920 - June 13, 2012

MIDLAND - Raymond J. McFadden, 91, passed away at home on Wednesday with his family by his side. Born in Ashland, PA, to Cornelius and Anna (Schilling) McFadden, Ray is survived by his wife, Marion "Monie" (Hull) McFadden; and his daughters, Ann McFadden of South Bend, IN, Julie (Martin) Kurtz of Portage, MI, and Rosemary (Michael O'Brien) McFadden of Albuquerque, NM. Also surviving Ray are siblings, Harold (Jean) McFadden, Dixie McFadden, Anna Corbe & Jimmy McFadden; sister-in-law, Evelyn Hull; his grandchildren, Ben (Sarah) Kurtz & Dee Dee (Chris) LeCompte; and five great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was pre-deceased by his brother, Charles; and his sons, Michael and Neil McFadden. Ray worked for IBM and enlisted in the Navy where he met his wife, Monie, a WAVE, during World War II. They married in 1945 and raised their family in Midland, MI, where he worked for the Dow Chemical Company for 35 years. While in Midland, MI, Ray and Monie were members of Blessed Sacrament Parish, and Ray was a lifetime member of the American Legion, the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church School Board, Regina High School Study Committee, and the Cursillo Movement. Ray and Monie retired to Sun City West, AZ, where he volunteered for AARP, hospice, the Westside Food Bank, and Habitat for Humanity. Ray and Monie were members of the Our Lady of Lourdes parish and, in 2007, moved to Andre Place at Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, IN. Ray possessed a genuine interest and curiosity in everyone and everything, resulting in a love of life and an ever-increasing number of friends. He was a warm and loving brother, husband, father and grandfather, and he enjoyed using his talents as handyman extraordinaire for friends, family and neighbors. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Holy Cross Chapel - Schubert Villa at Holy Cross Village, on Wednesday, June 20th, at 10:30 AM, followed by a memorial Mass at 11 AM, and a small luncheon in his memory at Andre Place for family and relatives. Ray donated his body to Indiana University Medical Center; interment will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the American Cancer Society
