Boone County Democrat May 17, 1907

Mrs. Phillip Conklin passed away at her home, 303 Williams street, at 3:30 o'clock Thursday morning, May 16th. Mrs. Conklin had been a patient sufferer for many months with a malignant tumor. She had undergone three different operations, each one of which it was hoped would prove successful to stay the dread disease, but it would again take root and some time ago her family and friends saw that the end was near and the members of her family were all present at her death bed. Harriet Moore was born in Jones County, Iowa, August 28, 1856. Shortly afterward the family removed to Dallas county and there she grew to young womanhood and was married to Charles Hughes who was called by death five years later. On September 5th, 1882 she was married to Phillip Conklin in Des Moines. Seventeen years ago the family removed to Boone and have resided here since. Two children, Emma and Alice, have also preceded her in death. Her husband and eight children, Mrs. Lillian Martin, of Des Moines, Mrs. Gladys Wagner, of Ames, William, Veva, John, Fay, Bonnie, Marie and Josephine are left to mourn the death of a loving and devoted wife and mother and to them is extended the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends. The funeral services will be held this, Friday afternoon, at 2:00 o'clock from the Christian church, of which she was a devoted member, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. C.F. Ward, and the remains laid to rest in East Linwood cemetery. The services at the cemetery will be in charge of the American Patriots of which order she was a faithful member.

Furnished by Cathy Curell.
