Newton E. Fitzpatrick was born about 1825 (age 25 on 1850 Maury Co. TN census) in Maury Co., TN. Newton E. Fitzpatrick was a child of John Fitzpatrick and Lucy Freeman Fitzpatrick both buried in Friendship Baptist Cemetery, Maury Co., Tennessee. The children of John Fitzpatrick were listed on his Will signed October 1857. The children are listed as: Elizabeth Wells, Mary G. "Polly" Fitzpatrick, Sarah Wells, Samuel Jefferson Fitzpatrick, Newton E. Fitzpatrick of Texas, Margaret Killingsworth, Nancy Killingsworth, Ruth M. Moore and Lois J. Fitzpatrick. Additional information for Newt's eight known siblings: Elizabeth P. 29 Aug 1812, Mary G. "Polly" about 1813, Sarah D. about 1816, Samuel Jefferson about 1818, Margaret Jane about 1828, Nancy R. about 1828, Ruth M. 12 Jun 1830, Lois J. about 1833. Names taken from will of John Fitzpatrick dated Oct 1857 and proven Apr 1873, Recorded Book F(6) Vol 1, Page 447, Maury Co., TN.

Newton E. married Adaline Sowell (daughter of Ryon Sowell and Anna G. Letsinger) in Maury Co., TN 18 Sep 1851. N. E. Fitzpatrick of Tennessee is listed on the Texas Voter Registration Line #1971 signed 16 November 1869 showing that he had lived in Texas (18) years,coming to Texas in 1851. N E Fitzpatrick is listed on Bastrop County, Texas, Tax Rolls, tax assessment beginning for the year 1852 and forward.

Five children were born to the marriage of Newt and Adaline: William "Bill" J. 08 Jun 1854; Jeff 14 Feb 1857; Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" 24 Dec 1860; Ellen A. 19 Jun 1862 and Laura L. 29 Feb 1864. Adaline Sowell Fitzpatrick born 13 Jan 1832 - died 11 Apr 1864, about six-weeks following the birth of her fifth child; she is buried in Mount Bethel, Bastrop Co., TX sharing a headstone with Newton.


Newton E. (N. E.) Fitzpatrick married Catherine Duncan (daughter of Angus Alexander McDonald and Annice Ussery) 23 Jul 1868, Bastrop Co. TX. Four children were born to this marriage: John 1869; Sarah "Sallie" Katherine/Catherine Jul 1870; Charles Benjamin 1872; and Leonah "Lee" in Oct 1874 following the death of her father in Mar of 1874.

Newton is buried between his first wife Adaline Sowell Fitzpatrick his son John with Catherine McDonald Duncan Fitzpatrick. Newt and Adaline share one headstone.

OBITUARY:
Bastrop Adviser, Bastrop, Texas March 21, 1874
It is with pain that we announce the death of Mr. James (should read: N.E.) Fitzpatrick which occurred at his late residence 6 miles north of Bastrop on Tuesdy morning last 17th March. His disease was that of pneumonia in carrying him off in one week from the time he was taken sick. Mr. Fitzpatrick was about fifty years of age, a native of Tennessee and had been a citizen of Bastrop County for over twenty years. He was a honest, upright, and useful citizen and loved and respected by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and seven children three boys and four girls together with legions of friends to mourn over his death. His remains were buried on Wednesday morning last at Piney Church Cemetery 6 miles above town.
