Lifelong Siskiyou County resident, Archie Albert Attebery, passed away on March 25, 2014, at the Madrone Hospice House in Yreka.

Archie was born to Archie and Louise Attebery on Feb. 14, 1927. Archie joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served for two years at the end of World War II. His Navy service was a very proud part of his life. On July 4, 1948, Archie married Pauline Titus, and the two were married for the past 65 years.

Archie lived a proud and fulfilling life. He worked for over 40 years as a sawyer and lumber grader in Happy Camp. Archie had a tremendous work ethic. He started out as a laborer and soon learned the art of lumber grading, which led to his position as a sawyer, where his decisions made the mill money. Even after his retirement, he stayed busy and kept active in a number of organizations and family events.

Archie was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Northern California Golf Association, the American Legion post in Happy Camp, a proud Karuk tribal member and was a very avid hunter, fisher, gold-panner and outdoorsman. He was also a huge baseball fan. When he wasn't coaching Little League or following his nephew (former Major League Baseball catcher and current television announcer for the Toronto Blue Jays, Buck Martinez), he would be rooting for his favored San Francisco Giants. Archie would travel for any events his family was involved in, including baseball and golf. Archie's family and friends were truly his pride and joy.

Archie was preceded in death by his parents; three children, Robert, David and Michael; and three sisters, Eva Moran, Dorthy Harrington and Gladys Taylor.

He is survived by his wife Pauline; two children, Lee Kuehl and her husband Terry of Redding, and Buster Attebery of Happy Camp; his sister, Marian Whitehouse; and his brother, Ben Attebery and his wife Helen. Archie is also survived by six grandchildren, Ken, Dan (Roni) Kuehl, Karen Attebery, Michelle (D.J.) Snopl, Chris Cheek and Cynthia (Jon) Vengley; and five great-grandchildren, Dani Lee Rose, Grayson, Mason, Colt and Gabe.

A funeral service will be held at the Happy Camp High School on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at 1 p.m., followed by a burial in the Happy Camp Cemetery. Immediately following the burial, a memorial reception will be held at the Karuk Community Center in Happy Camp.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Mike Attebery Scholarship Fund, PO Box 1015, Happy Camp, CA 96039, or Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097.
