The son of Abraham & Elizabeth (Eby) Behm, in 1860 he was living with his farming family in Penn Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

A Civil War veteran, he was drafted at the stated age of twenty-four in Lancaster County November 3, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg November 4 as a private with Co. F, 179th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 27, 1863.

After the war, he married Mary Keath and fathered the children you see linked below.
He died at his home from "cerebral thrombosis" with "senility" a contributing factor. None of his obituaries available in online newspaper archives mentions military service.
