Mr. Edward Barnette, 68, of Morganton, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at his residence following a period of declining health. Edward was born March 2, 1945, in Caldwell County, to the late Claude Hamby and Hattie Mae Chandler. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Roy Barnette. Edward was a U.S. Army veteran and a POW serving during the Vietnam War. Survivors include his life partner, Susan Barnette, of Morganton; sons, Ralph Edward Barnette, of Charlotte and Brandon DeLane Barnette, of Morganton; daughter, Teresa Ann Barnette, resident of J. Iverson Riddle Center; grandchildren, Kayla Barnette, of Statesville, Steven Barnette, of Statesville, Jacob Barnette, of Tampa, Fla., Tyler Barnette, of Morganton, and Ava Barnette, of Morganton; brother, George Ray Barnette, of Morganton; sister-in-law, Sonya Sitton, of Columbia, S.C.; niece, Amanda Barnette, of Morganton; and nephew, Brian Barnette and family, of Morganton. The family will receive friends Friday, May 17, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese. Inurnment will be held Monday, May 20, at 12 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
