John Harold Burns, Jr., 94, of Fenton, IL, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Resthave Retirement and Nursing Home in Morrison, IL. Private graveside services were held at the Fenton Cemetery, Fenton, IL. Memorials may be made to the Fenton United Methodist Church or the Erie Senior Citizens. John Harold Burns, Jr. was born August 3, 1917 in Fenton Township, Illinois to John H. and Harriet M. (Wood) Burns. He graduated from Coburn School and Erie High School and attended Colorado College and the University of Missouri. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Mr. Burns was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received as a result of enemy action on April 27, 1945 in Germany. He had served with the U.S. Army in England, France, Belgium and Germany prior to his wounding. He married Elizabeth Baker in Davenport, IA, on June 1, 1946. She died September 26, 2000. He farmed in Fenton Township from 1946 until retiring in 1991. He was a lifetime member of the Fenton United Methodist Church. Mr. Burns was a 66 year member of the Denton-Schreiner American Legion Post 582. He was also a charter member of the Lake Erie Country Club. He enjoyed travel, time with his family and friends, conversation, golf and bowling. He was a lifelong White Sox fan. He is survived by son, Stephen R. Burns, Erie, and daughter, Priscilla (John) Bone, Englewood, CO
